Tiba, when you consider past tragedies, this current one and future catastrophes in Haiti, the question is not who is to blame but how we can prevent future ones from happening.
We all know that the haitian government is a totally irresponsible entity.
In fact, this government is a total joke.
Not too long ago, a bridge collapsed in the United States and they were dozens of victims. Was the Bush administration to blame for that catastrophe?
No, but they learned from that incident.
Our problem is that we don't learn from anything.
After two catastrophes in Gonaives, I will bet you that the next hurricane to hit the area in a few years will leave the same destruction and devastation on its path. President Preval, God forbids, if he is still around will be running to the United States as usual to beg for help.
When are we ever gonna be prepared for anything?
When are we gonna have shelters in these at-risk areas?
When are we gonna have inspectors for public structures like scholls, hospitals, stadiums and so on?
These are the questions we should be asking.
Personnally, I don't blame the government when a catastrophe hits. It could have happened under any government.
I blame the government for its failure to take any measures to prevent similar catastrophes from happening over and over again.
