George Bush Rejects TPS For Haitians

The Bush administration has again rejected a request by Haitian President René Préval and some U.S. lawmakers for TPS for tens of thousands of undocumented Haitians.

The TPS request called for the Haitians living in the U.S. to be allowed to stay until Haiti recovers from back-to-back storms, that hit over the summer.

`After very careful consideration, I have concluded that Haiti does not currently warrant a TPS [temporary protected status] designation,` Michael Chertoff, secretary for the U.S. Department ofHomeland Security, wrote in a letter last month to Préval, which was quoted in the Miami Herald.
