I agree with almost everything you've said, but you failed to acknowledge that the way Haitians think and feel about profession/career has to do with the Haitian culture, which is a backward/primitive culture.
Growing up in Haiti, I remember the society excluding from its rank any one young boy caught fishing.
The society would make a mockery at any man caught cooking.
The woman fixed dinner, but she had to wait until the husband/man left something on his plate for her to eat.
In Haiti, I knew a mother (a very good friend of mine) who publically said to her son who was then finishing retho but showing interest in music, that she did not spend all of that money to put him through college so he can play music.
As if music was a low-life career.
The guy ended up joining orchestre Septentrionale and became the best lead singer of Septentrionale
Today, it would blow Haitian minds away in Haiti to watch a woman fixing a car, etc...
And this is why till this day of 2009, you sees Haitians keep comparing and referring to one's profession/career as either degrading or noble.
Many, especially from the Must Repugnant Elite (MRE) refer to Aristide as "T-pe, as an insulting epithet to describe his presidency.
It is required leadership in order to revamp or recreate the Haitian culture for there isn't on right now.
The Haitian culture has been dismantled a longtime ago.
