Hi Zac; sorry, I had several deadlines creeping up on me. There's lots of stuff out there, but most of it is really not very good. A few that are good are not what you need. So, I'll start you off with two that I always recommend to my students.

Try them; let me know how you like them, than you'll have questions, than I'll give you some more to answer your questions.

The very first book that all Haitians, who speak english should read is The Black Jacobins, by CLR James.

The next one is Trouillot's Haiti State Against a Nation.

I'm half asleep, so I might not have gotten Trouillot's title just right.

My library is in the next room, so if I got it wrong, I'll fix it for you tomorrow, but I'm not getting up right now. I use them both all the time...both are excellent.

I don't always agree with Trouillot's argument, but his research is solid.

Let me know if you read them.
