I say "Amen e Insiswatil" to that! Haitian se bet ki frajil anpil, fok ou tojou veye zo-ou avek yo.

This is one of the reasons why I left Fort Lauderdale in the 80s, and moved to upstate New York. Beside the wide spread voodoo in Florida, Haitians in Florida gossip and lie a lot too.

For example, I have quite few cousins in Miami and Fort Lauderdale that I have not talked to nor seen in almost 20 years, but every time they travel to Haiti, they would tell my sister and to other members of my family about the opulent life that I am living in New York. Haitian diaspora always feel compelled to show off to those back home by lying, fe interesant, fe chelbe.

Sometimes, when my sister called she would tell me tabout one of my cousins who was visiting from Fort Lauderdale or from Miami was telling her about me. They would tell her that I am living an opulent life in New York, but I wouldn't give them anything to give to her even though I knew full well that they were going to Haiti.

And my surprise response is always, well, did you know that I haven't seen nor talked to this person in almost 20 years?

But again, in terms of voodoo in Miami, the Cubans are even worse than the Haitians.
