Tiba I do understand the point you're trying to make. However, It was a complete shock for me to see the term "no back bones" used to describe Toussaint.
To me the term "no back bones" is synonymous to cowardice.
My knowledge of Haitian history is very limited, it's a summary of what I learned in Primary school in Haiti and different articles I've read online about Haiti.
When i moved to the US I was about 13 and I had just completed "certificat".
A lot of people who come to the US in my age group don't usually care about Haiti, for me it's been the complete opposite.
I remember when i first got here I was talking to my cousin once. I was telling him about how much I love Haiti my dad overheard me and he said "whatever love or connection you feel for Haiti will soon pass, you're young and new here".
I'm in my 20s now after I go to college and get my degrees.
One of my dreams is to get involved in the educational system in Haiti.
I think Haitian history needs to be rewritten by competent Haitians.
The history of a country should be written and influenced by its own people, and Haiti needs to do away with this backward educational system it has now.
Tiba I don't if you notice that but a lot of Haitians young and old have no self-identity.
They are ashamed of the roots.
It's because our culture, our history is influenced way too much by foreigners.
I'm so sick by that. Of all the countries of the American continents our history is the most notable the most distinguished yet it is the least appreciated and celebrated specially by Haitians.
One of the best way to restore our dignity and solve our problems is through education.
Haiti will never have a modern society with a deteriorating school system that is breeding ignorance.
