Hi Zac, I spend a quarter of the year in Haiti--sometimes more when I have a semester off. I would never run for office in Haiti because the illogical mind of the Haitian male that lives in Haiti is not something that I can deal with. Actually, recently I met several Haitian leaders in the south Florida area, and it seems to me that they are not that different from those in Haiti.

They are highly emotional and egotistical; this constant combination of high emotions, combine with the inability to suppress their ego--even when life and death issues are being discussed-- makes them somewhat irrational.

Hence, if there's a flaw in a plan they've come-up with, you cannot really point it out to them, because they react as if the comment on the plan is a personal attack on their character.

They tend to turn on anyone who does not agree one hundred percent with them. People like that cannot ever really make good decisions, because they cannot head other people's opinion.

Besides, there is a great deal of retrograde male chauvinism in most Haitian males.

A woman's opinion is always less valuable to them then those of a male. This last point is more true of Haitian males living in Haiti than the ones living in other countries.

Over the past five years, I've trained myself on how to advise Haitian males without bruising their ego. However, walking on egg shelves for the rest of my life is not something that I want to do. A man should be secure enough to accept constructive criticism.

A man who is insecure is just a pain in my hide.

However, even with all that, I am still considering returning permanently to Haiti in summer 2011. That is when I will be free from my obligations in the US. I am not sure what I will do in Haiti, but I do think that all who can go home should.
