Tifr Eursul thank you for your input.

I live in the US and I do get a lot of my information from American sources but at the same time I also get my information from other credible international sources.

I'm not in South Florida currently but I did live there years ago and that's why once in a while I visit the Miami Herald website because I'm familiar with that newspaper.

I agree that the Haitian diaspora also includes those who live in Canada, France, etc...

I know they support Haiti just as well. Haitians are very patriotic no matter where in the world they happen to be. If you remember, I never said the Haitian diaspora sent money directly to the Haitian government.

I said, I read an article that stated that the Haitian diaspora sends over a billion dollars to Haiti annually.

Money sent to Haiti means money sent to families and friends.

It is Charles who interpreted my comment incorrectly.

There's a big difference between the phrase "the Haitian diaspora sends over a billion dollars to Haiti (to families and friends) and "the Haitian diaspora sends over a billion dollars to the Haitian government." I agree with you that we cannot hold the government accountable for the money Haitians send to their friends and family.

And I never did say that in my original argument either.

What I said was:
If the Haitian government would just partner up with the Haitian diaspora we would be able to rebuild Haiti ourselves. But they will not partner up with us because then they will not be able to steal from the money and they know we would also hold them accountable for dishonesty and bad governance.

What I meant by that statement was, apart from the money Haitians send to their families and friends, if the Haitian government was wise it would encourage the Haitian diaspora to invest in Haiti.

Nobody's going to hand over money to the Haitian government, nobody! but what they will do is invest.

The government should create a commission that encourages the Haitian diaspora to invest and also grant the diaspora basic rights including dual citizenship and other incentives.

I've noticed that our political leaders and the Haitian elite are much more friendlier and more accommodating to foreigners then they are to the Haitian diaspora.

The simple reason is they are intimidated by us. They are afraid and I think they have good reason to be afraid because they know what they are to Haiti is wrong.

To conclude, I agree with you that the Haitian diaspora is not organized but it will be in due time. I think the Haitian elite who have a monopoly on the Haitian economy also control the uneducated idiot politicians we have in Haiti.

United the Haitian diaspora is more than capable of keeping in check the few families who have a monopoly over the Haitian economy and who make life miserable for the mass. Right now the problem is most of those who migrated from Haiti never took the time to educate themselves.

But the new generations of Haitians are very educated they are organizing themselves.

I've been doing a lot of research on the Haitian diaspora mainly that of the US I was surprise to find that there are a lot of young Haitian-Americans who are organizing themselves; furthermore they are very dedicated to changing the situation in Haiti.

I'm a part of it and i have great hope for Haiti.
