Maxo Benjamin,

While I greatly admire Wyclef's devotion to his native country of Haiti, I can't help but to notice a big problem with the way he is getting his message across in order to get the world's attention on Haiti.

In his almost every single public appearance, Wyclef tends to out of his way to talk about his upbringing in Haiti as a little boy living in a "hut", as a little boy who thought airplanes were big "birds" that he used to take his slangshuts to kill them, and as a little boy he did not know what "school" was, etc. etc. etc...it is a long list of his misfortunes while living in Haiti as little boy.

While it may be true for him, the overtone of his message, however, seems to come across to all of these foreigners/Americans, as if this was and is still the life of all Haitians who lived in Haiti during his time and the life of all Haitians living in Haiti today.

Sometimes, a people don't need to bring themselves down that low to the garbage dump level when begging for money and for help from stangers because by doing that you putting an entire nation and people to that same level, and that is not fair.

Growing up in Haiti during Wyclef's time, I knew an airplane was not a big bird, I knew what school was and I attended school.

And, I did not live in a "hut" even though my parents were the porest of the poor.

I listened to Wyclef speaks in public, and his comments come across as if Haiti is a premitive country that is still in the dark ages and stone age eras.

It is without a doudt that Wyclef is firlty rich, famous, and influencial, but he is still remained not a so "bright" fellow intellectually, and therefore, I think those of his entourage/circle need to teach him how to give interviews in a more constructive manner and how to make comments intelligently when begging for money without dragging down in the mud the very people he is trying to help.

That's been at least my observation.

I feel as though it's time that Haitians from all walks of life start talking about Haiti and view Haiti in a more constructive way. Please let's stop trashing our country, Haiti Thomas.
