I couldn't agree more with this post. It is extremely unrealistic and unfair to expect one class of people to prop up the rest of the country.

Even if that could happen, that type of change would never last anyway and any real progress in Haiti would continue to be impeded because a country's populace must be educated and healthy in order to thrive.

I would like to see Haiti embrace microfinance which is the provision of financial services to low-income clients, including consumers and the self-employed, who traditionally lack access to banking and related services, as some of the poorest countries of Southeast Asia have: kiva.org/about/microfinance.

Let's not perpetuate the myth that Haitians are perpetual victims and only capable of being dependent on foreign aid. It's time to show the first world countries that Haitian resilience is alive and well!
