It is not that far fetch people.

We are spoiled and naive about a lot of social issues.

In Japan for example, the Korean have been there for more that 200 years at the request of the Japanese to help build railroads and such. Although they (Koreans) are there for generations, they are not considered Japanese.

My daughter was born in Japan.

Both my husband and I were non-Japanese; She was labeled in her birth certificate as "An American born abroad".

We were also in China on a Fullbright scholarship teaching American foreign policy.

We had to make a special plea to the Chinese Government to let our child be "American" without such plea she would have considered Chinese had I gave birth there.

Since Japanese and Korean almost look alike, how do they know?

During the birht certificate process, both parents have to give both paternal and maternal last names up to 10 generations back and the names are well documented and controlled.

When I reminded them of such injustice, they automatic reminded me that America was not any better.

U.S used different tactics but the end result was the same....
