My friend Tiba, do not say such a thing about the Haitian Constitution of 1987. I have great respect for those brilliant legislators who wrote it. It is not a perfect piece of work but in essence it is a great piece of work. We still can amend it to bring some changes such as removing some exclusionary clauses.

We need to include a clause about land reforms while making all Haitian lands belong to the state of Haiti to prevent foreigners from purchasing our territory piece by piece like Labady, La Navasa and others Haitian lands bought by the United States are a great example of that. We need to the raise the bar as far as electing future presidents in Haiti.

Haitians need to be competent and qualified before they become elected presidents in Haiti.

If they cannot raise the bar they should make the presidency an honorific post without any salary like Israel, India and Germany to name a few.

Tiba, Haitian political leaders never implemented the Haitian Constitution of 1987 and that is why you believe that it is a bad constitution.

The United Constitution was not well written too but over the years U.S. legislators amended it and continue to amend it to make it reflect the daily realities of the American people.

We have great jurists in Haiti eventhough the state of Haiti has failed in its mission over the past 25 years, but I will never say that the Constitution of 1987 is a piece of trash that Haiti has ever had after its independence.

We can be respected if we can implement the ideals of our current constitution while providing more changes to it. Tiba, one problem that we are confronting is this we have more jurists out of the Haitian parliamentary system than we have in this current Haitian Congress.

We need to elect jurists into the Haitian Congress if we want changes to take place in Haiti.

If I were given the power to do so I would order on day one of my presidency a review of all elected officials in both chambers and if I realized that they were not qualified enough I would dissolve the Congress and call for special elections within 30 days to give to Haiti a well competent Congress with mostly newly graduated law students and law practitioners so we could make changes in Haiti.

In the past 25 years we have elected a bunch of incompetent people to defend a pay check.

Tiba, I am telling you if I were given the chance to serve in Haiti I would change this country for real and Haitians would be respected everywhere they go. We can be respected again if we can bring transparency and accountability within all Haitian institutions.

This is a small country to manage and if Haitians were competent and serious Haiti would be a paradise on earth for rich and poor Haitians.

Haitian women and the peasants could be respected again.

In many advanced countries around the world they raise the bar so they could hire competent people to serve as presidents and we should do the same. All G-8 leaders now are very bright, qualified and competent leaders too. Most of them came from Yale, Harvard, Oxford, Sorbogne San-Petersburg University and McGill to name a few. We can do same by hiring competent people from reputable Haitian schools or France and Canadian schools to name a few but not necessary those mentioned schools to serve us.

Tiba, take a little time to reread the Haitian Constitution to appreciate the beauty of it, you may disagree with me it is ok but I am telling you it is not a perfect piece of work but it is a great piece of work if we know how to implement it. May God bless you!
