growing organic tilapia for feeding the people

< Previous | Home | Next >

I am running a project for growing organic tilapia in Ecuador.

We use as feed fermented products such as foliage, cattle manure, rice hulls, etc, which have been previously predigested by beneficial bacteria.

We can grow tilapia with a cost of about US 0.20 per pound of live fish. Tilapia can be used for exports or for feeding the people.

At present we are using a fast-growing legume Leucaena leucocephala in order to obtain a 30% protein foliage to feed tilapaia.

6 has. of this type of culture can produce 1.000.000 pounds of fish per year. Our proyect is successful and I would like to offer this idea to feed your people and also to reforest your countryside with a useful crop - the leucaena species.

I can send you the seeds and the technics to try. These trees can grow also to provide fuel and lumber. The investment is low and should be affordable in order to feed the people and produce profitable work. Ecuador is now the leading exporter of tilapia in Latin America.
