Documentary Film about Haitian Boatbuilders

< Previous | Home | Next >

Der Mr. President'
I am interesdted in making a documentary film about Haitian boat building.

It is my intention to show the industriousness and skill the Haitian people.

This is not to be a film about the people seeking to emigrate to other countries.

It is a film about those people who create wooden boat and use them for fishing and the transport of cargo and passengers.

Some time ago i read an article about in an American boatbuilding magazine about boatbuilders in the north of Haiti, near Cap Haitian and on the island of Tortuga.

I would like to come there in December to start research into the project.

My name is Pierre Desir and I am a professor of film production at Emerson College in Boston Massachusetts.

My father was Haitian and became an exile when Duvalier came to power.

I was born in the US and have only visited Haiti twice, the first time in 1995. Unfortunately, I do not speak Creole.

I would like to get in touch with somebody who can help me in my research and possibly act as guide and translator.

The research is needed to create a proposal to apply for grant money to finance the film.
Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely
Pierre desir
