Airline Defends Actions After Woman Dies On Flight To JFK From Haiti February 25, 2008 American Airlines says its crew did all it could to save the life of a woman who died on a flight from Haiti to JFK Airport Friday.

Carnine Desir passed away on the flight from Port Au Prince.

A cousin flying with her says flight attendants at first refused Desir's request for help after she complained she was ill. Antonio Oliver says crew members twice refused to administer oxygen to the 44-year-old. When they did agree to help, Oliver says two oxygen tanks and a defibrillator failed to work. American Airlines offered its condolences to the family.

The airline says its crews are trained to handle medical emergencies, and they're confident crew members did everything they could to help. The medical examiner says Desir, who suffered from heart disease, died of natural causes.
